ABOUT TOMCAT...After years of informal playing in jam sessions, Tomcat was invited to put together a blues band for an expat-owned bar in Manila. That led him to a long association with Filipino vocalist Binky Lampano. They first formed the Newly Industrialized Combo, a short-lived project band specializing in "industrial-strength blues," a venture that landed them on the front cover of Manila's leading Sunday newspaper magazine and which spawned a blues revival in the Philippine capital. That was followed by LAMPANO ALLEY, a band that has become a legend in Manila's alternative music scene.
Tomcat's approach to teaching harmonica is quite different from most. His own musical training has been quite varied: jazz improvisation with John Mehegan, big band arranging with Neil Slater, and various workshops at SPAH, the Augusta Heritage Center, the International Harmonica Championships in Trossigen in 1993, the Asian Harmonica Championships in 1996 [where he served as a judge] and a workshop with Howard Levy. Tomcat has developed an unusual system that teaches down-to-earth music theory while one learns to play the harmonica. To contact Tomcat please click HERE .
